PRINCIPLE #2 ANTICIPATION
Anticipation is what prepares the viewers for a certain action by making the motions to represent them. Â This Principle is quite simillar to the first principle of Squash n Stretch. Â One of the main differences is how they’re utilized.
As it’s shown here the difference between Squash n Stretch and Anticipation is that, anticipation is implemented into animation when the asset’s action is being prepared to happen, where Squash n Stretch is the movement and distortion of an active, and ending action.
The 2nd Principle: Anticipation
Notice how the red box crouches down (compresses) before jumping. This "reverse motion" prepares your eyes for the upward movement, making the jump feel more powerful and realistic.
Instead of focusing on the impact, and midway results of an animation, anticipation, makes simple actions, before commiting to the main attraction, in this example, the stick figure manages to crouch before commiting to a jump, and landing, the crouch and recovery, are very simillar, as they simulate simillar movements, and actions
